HUST Bags 6 Golds, 2 Silvers at 19th Asian Games

On October 8, the 19th Asian Games came to an end in Hangzhou. The Chinese delegation won 201 gold medals, 111 silver medals, and 71 bronze medals, a total of 383 medals. Athletes from School of Physical Education of HUST contributed 6 golds and 2 silvers. Behind the scenes, HUST’s faculty and students were rigorous and dedicated, providing high-quality services and ensuring safety for the smooth progress of the games.

 

Zheng Qinwen, an undergraduate student enrolled in 2023 majoring in sports training, won the gold medal in the Women's Singles Tennis event. She also served as the second torchbearer.

 

 

Chang Yani, an undergraduate majoring in sports training enrolled in 2020, won the gold medal of the Women's Synchronized 3m Springboard diving event teamed up with Chen Yiwen. In addition, she won the silver medal in the Women's 3m Springboard diving event.

 

 

Sun Mengya, an undergraduate majoring in sports training enrolled in 2022, and teammate Xu Shixiao, won the gold medal of the Women's Canoe Double 500m of Canoe Sprint.

 

 

Zheng Jiuyuan, an undergraduate majoring in sports training enrolled in 2023, claimed the silver in the Men's 3m Springboard diving event.

 

 

Wang Ying, an undergraduate majoring in sports training enrolled in 2022, bagged three golds with her teammates in the Dragon Boat (12) Women's 200m, 500m and 1000m Straight Race events.

 

 

Buyun Chaokete (third from left in the picture), an undergraduate majoring in sports training enrolled in 2021, represented the Chinese team in the Men's Doubles and Mixed Doubles Tennis events.

 

Chen Yujie (second from the left in the picture), a graduate student from the School of Physical Education, was originally on the list of the Women's 3x3 Basketball National Team for the Asian Games. To attend the Asian Games, she gave up the opportunity to attend the World University Games and the 1st Student (Youth) Games of the People's Republic of China. However, in the annual finals of the FIBA3x3 Women's Series, she was seriously injured. Finally, the Chinese Women's 3x3 Basketball National Team won the gold medal at the Asian Games. Although Chen Yujie's name was not on the list, it fully demonstrated the sportsmanship of HUSTers and Hubei athletes.

Behind the excellent achievements, there are not only the results of the athletes’ hard training, but also the school’s successful practice to further promote the integration of sports and education and its continuous pursuit of excellence.

 

 

Zeng Hongtao, a professor from the School of Physical Education, was one of the technical representatives in the basketball events at the 19th Asian Games.

 

 

Zhang Jie, an associate professor from the School of Physical Education, served as a doping control officer at the 19th Asian Games.

 

 

Jiang Hao, a teacher from the School of Physical Education, worked as a commentator for the Dragon Boat events of the 19th Asian Games.

 

 

Hu Jing (right), an alumna from the School of Public Administration, former high-level women's basketball player, and international basketball referee, served as the basketball referee at the 19th Asian Games. She currently officiates in WCBA and NBL leagues, and just officiated in the basketball event in the 31st World University Games.

 

 

Wang Zhouyu, a graduate student from the School of Physical Education enrolled in 2022, won gold medals in both the Olympic Games and the National Games of the PRC and served as the 13th torchbearer for the19th Asian Games.

 

 

 

Xiang Yicheng, a graduate student from the School of Journalism and Information Communication enrolled in 2021, served as an English broadcaster for the Rowing, Canoe Sprint, and Canoe Slalom events of the 19th Asian Games.

 

 

Peng Yan and Ding Xun, teachers from the School of Foreign Languages, led 4 postgraduates to contribute to the language service section, providing news, translation, escort and simultaneous interpretation services for the Asian Games.

 

 

In recent years, more and more HUSTers have been involved in provincial, national, and global sports events. They inspire all HUSTers to forge  ahead and surpass themselves through their own ways and actions. Moreover, the HUST spirit gets spread home and abroad via their deeds.
