HUST's first session of Global Competence Talents Class opens

On October 21st , the first session of Global Competence Talents Class of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) opened. You Zheng, President of HUST, and Huang Wei, Director of the Division of Planning, Information and Knowledge Management, Department of Nuclear Energy, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), who’s also a HUST alumnus, attended the opening ceremony. Zhang Yao, Vice Chair of the University Committee of HUST, presided over the opening ceremony.


First, President You congratulated all the students enrolled in the class. He highlighted that setting up the class is a demonstration of HUST’s active involvement in advancing global governance reform and fostering exceptional students with global competence.


President You also pointed out that developing global competence mainly involves three aspects: fostering students' commitment to serving the country, ensuring a comprehensive grasp of international rules and enhancing their professional skills. He encouraged every student to always keep in mind the top priorities of the country, improve their abilities, and broaden their horizons to help achieve sustainable development.


Director Huang praised HUST in his speech for its impressive research accomplishments and strong commitment to social responsibility. He also stated that this class can not only nurture talents for China's multilateral diplomacy and international cooperation, but also create new opportunities for development for HUST students. Thus, he urged students to seize opportunities to develop comprehensive abilities that can help them fit into today’s international multilateral system.


 


 


President You, Director Huang, Vice Chair Zhang and other department leaders jointly inaugurated this class. President You then presented the class representative with flag.

Wang Xiaoyue, Chair of the School Committee of the School of Foreign Languages, introduced the class’s development. Wu Siyi, an undergraduate from the Law School, gave a speech on behalf of the student body.


 


The class was jointly set up by the Office of International Affairs, the Office of Student Affairs, Youth League Committee and School of Foreign Languages. The class has received widespread attention and positive feedback from HUSTers. It is comprised of 50 outstanding students, including doctoral candidates, postgraduates and undergraduates from 27 schools and departments.
