The 31st FISU World University Games Summer took place in Chengdu, Sichuan Province from July 28 to August 8. More than 6,500 young athletes from 113 countries participated in the event. Three students from HUST, namely Li He, Yu Zongda and Huang Huafeng, competed on behalf of China and won 2 gold and 1 bronze medals. Meanwhile, three teachers from HUST, namely Yu Changqing, Li Ke and Zhang Kai, together with an alumna named Hu Jing, played important roles in organizing the event as coaches and technical support.

Li He from the School of Physical Education represented China in the women's 4x100m relay race and won the gold medal with a time of 43.70 seconds.

Yu Zongda, along with his teammates, Wang Gukailai, Qin Haiyang, Chen Jun’er and Lin Tao, represented China in the men's 4x100m medley relay. They finished the race in 3:32.58, earning a gold medal and breaking the record of the event.

Huang Huafeng from the School of Public Administration won the bronze medal in the men’s triple jump with a score of 16.76 meters, which was his personal best of the season.
