You Zheng leads delegation to Australia and New Zealand

From October 11 to 17, President You Zheng led a delegation to visit Australia and New Zealand to enhance cooperation and cultural exchanges.


 

 

At the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Vice-Chancellor and President Attila Brungs and other senior leaders met with the delegation. Professor Attila Brungs extended warm welcome to the delegation. He also expressed his expectations for developing high-level research and talent training cooperation with HUST in the interdisciplinary fields of medicine and engineering.


President You Zheng expressed his strong appreciation for the profound friendship between the two universities. He looked forward to extensive cooperation between the two sides in interdisciplinary and innovative disciplines, aiming to make greater contributions to promoting Sino-Australian educational exchanges and serving the greater good of humanity.

 

 

At the University of Sydney (USYD), the delegation met with the university's Vice-Chancellor and President Mark Scott and relevant deans. Professor Mark Scott said that he looked forward to strengthening exchanges, enhancing mutual trust and solidifying cooperation with HUST.


President You Zheng said that during Huai Jinpeng's visit to the University of Sydney as the Minister of Education of China in August, both parties emphasized the significance of enhancing Sino-Australian collaboration in education. This visit serves as a typical example of this consensus. After the meeting, President You Zheng presented a letter of appointment as HUSTs Advisory Professor to Professor Albert Zomaya of USYD.


 

At the University of Queensland (UQ), Provost Aidan Byrne and other officials met with the delegation. Professor Aidan Byrne conveyed the greetings of Professor Deborah Terry, Vice-Chancellor and President of UQ, and reviewed the long-term cooperation between the two universities. President You Zheng elaborated on HUSTs strengths in engineering and medicine. He hoped that the two universities can complement each other's strengths. The two universities then renewed the International Cooperation Agreement.


 

At the University of Canterbury (UC), President Cheryl de la Rey and other officials attended the meeting. President Cheryl de la Rey stated that HUST is a sincere and reliable partner. She believed that the Confucius Institute jointly built by the two universities was a model of cooperation between China and New Zealand. President You Zheng extended his congratulations on the 150th anniversary of UC and looked forward to further expanding cooperation. The two universities held a signing ceremony. Subsequently, President You Zheng met with teachers and volunteers of the Confucius Institute.

 

 

 

During their visit to Australia and New Zealand, HUST delegation paid a visit to the Consulate-General of the Peoples Republic of China in Sydney and the Consulate-General of the Peoples Republic of China in Christchurch. Deputy Consul General of the Consulate General in Sydney Yu Jie and Consul General of the Consulate General in Christchurch He Ying attended the meeting.

 


The delegation participated in the exchange activities of the Australian Alumni Association and held the “12th East Lake International Forum for Outstanding Overseas Young Scholars” in Australia.
