Oct 29, 2021

From October 11th to November 13th, Aaron Hsueh, Professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and former director of the Department of reproductive biology of Stanford University, was invited to Tongji Medical College for an academic visit.

On the morning of October 11th, Professor Aaron Hsueh gave a lecture entitled "In-vitro Activation of Follicles for Infertility Treatment" in the Institute of Reproductive Health (IRH, HUST). His report focuses on an in-vitro activation (IVA) method established by his laboratory, which can activate preantral follicles for the derivation of mature oocytes from patients with primary ovarian insufficiency and insufficient ovarian reserve. After the lecture, Professor Aaron Hsueh gave detailed answers to the questions raised by teachers and students, inspiring new ideas from basic research to clinical research.

On the afternoon of October 12th, Professor Aaron Hsueh attended the 228th Tongji Medical Forum, presenting a report entitled “Darwin’s Theory of Evolution and Medicine." It mainly focused on medicine and the future of mankind from the perspective of Darwinian evolution, so as to truly understand biomedicine. He introduced the relationship between gene evolution and human diseases in simple terms and explained how evolutionary genomics promotes the development of medicine. Professor Aaron Hsueh's insightful academic report brought the audience new perspectives on biomedicine. After the report, he presented the book, Beautiful New World, translated by himself and his wife, to the students, then signed messages for the students.

On the morning of October 13th, Professor Aaron Hsueh gave another lecture entitled "Reproductive Research and Publishing Strategies". His report focused on how to design projects, conduct experiments and contribute papers. In the report, Professor Aaron Hsueh introduced - in detail - how to effectively select projects, strategies for searching the literature, and how to deal with relevant problems encountered in contributing papers.

Professor Aaron Hsueh is mainly engaged in the research of reproductive medicine and bioinformatics. He has published nearly 400 papers in journals including Nature and Science. He has won NIH research career development award, American Reproductive Society Research Award, the TIME magazine "Top Ten Medical Research Progress in the World" in 2013, etc.
