HUST Undergraduates Visit Singapore for Exchange Program on Intelligent Manufacturing

Sep 18, 2023

In July, 24 outstanding undergraduates from the School of Mechanical Science and Engineering of HUST visited Singapore to partipipate in a 9-day Intelligent Manufacturing study program at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). The students explored local labs and companies, guided by HUST associate professor Yu Wenyong and counselor Xu Xiaodi.

The courses include an introduction to Industry 4.0 and its related core technologies, etc., jointly taught by professors SK. Moon, XY. Yun, LG. Zhan, LG. Lai from the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of NTU. Students actively participated in discussions and collaborated on group assignments. Beyond classroom learning, professor SK. Moon led students on visits to cutting-edge laboratories established through collaborations between NTU and industry giants like Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Continental. This immersive experience, combining theory with practical research, significantly enhanced students' comprehension of AI technology and its applications in industry.

During the program, students explored AI applications at Huawei Singapore and local technology company ICE71, gaining insights into work environments, technical requirements, and career paths through interactions with entrepreneurs. At the closing ceremony, students presented their learning outcomes in group. Professor SK. Moon announced the ending of the courses and handed out the certificates of completion to the students and souvenirs to the outstanding team. After the program, students toured Singapore's historical sites, experiencing its distinctive blend of multiculturalism and modern technology.

Through the exchange program, students delved into cutting-edge technology and embraced a multicultural campus life. Wang Zhongquan, an undergraduate from the Class of 2201, found NTU's 3D printing and robotics technology particularly striking. Another student Xu Junhao credited group tasks within the course for sparking thoughts on drone automation maintenance and enhancing their global outlook.
