This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative and the 20th anniversary of the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership. In order to promote the development of scientific research and talent training of HUST, enhance the international influenceof HUST, and expand the cooperation in international students recruitment with universities of relevant countries and Mission of the People's Republic of China to the European Union, from 11 to 18 October, HUST delegation from the School of International Education,School of Mechanical Science and EngineeringandChina-EU Institute for Clean and Renewable Energyvisited the Mission of the People's Republic of China to the European Union and partner universities in Belgium, France, the United Kingdom and other countries, participated in relevant activities of Mission of the People's Republic of China to the European Union, and carried out "Study at HUST" publicity activities.
On October 11, the delegation visited the Education and Culture Office of the Mission of the People's Republic of China to the European Union and participated in the exchange symposium "How are European Students living and studying in China" hosted by the Office. Ms.Zhao Xiaofeng,Vice Dean of School of International Educationof HUST, Prof. Zou Mingqing,Vice Dean of China-EU Institute for Clean and Renewable Energy of HUST, Researcher Guo Wei,Ph.D. tutor from School of Mechanical Science and Engineering of HUST, respectively introduced the latest development of scientific research, personnel training and education of HUST since its opening to the outside world, and had in-depth communication with Ma Tao, Minister Counselor for Education Affairs of the Mission of the People's Republic of China to the European Union, Huawei Global Talent Ecosystem Training Project team, representatives of relevant EU institutions, Belgium universities, heads of European affairs of Huawei and international students. While in Brussels, the delegation visited the Free University of Brussels, where Isabelle Saint-Paul, Deputy Dean of the School of Literature, Translation and Communication, and Muriel Guilmot, Professor of the Department of Translation, participated in the talks. The two sides had in-depth exchanges on the selection of outstanding international students for the 2024 "International Chinese Language Teacher Scholarship" program and the "3+3" enterprise internship program.
On October 13, the delegation held a "Study at HUST" seminar in Paris, introducing study majors offered by HUST in 2024 and open for international students, "Internship Program in Scientific Research for Students from World-Renowned Universities" and "Discover at HUST" summer program from multiple perspectives, and explained in detail the application process and the policies related to scholarship funding. The presentation attracted nearly 100 parents of local French students to attend. During the lecture, Zou Mingqing and Guo Wei had in-depth exchanges with experts and scholars in the field of energy and machinery respectively. Zhao Xiaofeng had discussions with relevant universities on recruiting international students and 2024 summer programs.
From October 16 to 18, the delegation visited partner universities in the UK and held a recruitment seminar on "Study at HUST" (London Station) at Royal Holloway, University of London, which was attended by nearly 50 UK teachers and students. Zou Mingqing and Guo Wei introduced the energy and mechanical disciplines of HUST and the cultivation measures for international students respectively with the topic of "The Mission and Future of the Energy Practitioners" and "Opportunities and Challenges of Advanced Manufacturing in China". Royal Holloway International Department, Department of Earth Sciences, Department of Electronic Engineering, Department of Computer Science and other relevant leaders attended the seminar.
At Queen Mary, University of London, the delegation made discussions with Alex Clark, Professor of the School of Science and Engineering (in charge of International Communication), Professor Kathryn Richardson, Dean of the School of Languages and Film and Culture, Chinnapat Panwisawas, Associate Professor of the School of Engineering and Materials Science, and Ceri Bevan, Director of the Office of Global Opportunities. The two sides had in-depth exchanges on the 2024 student exchange programs and scientific research internship programs.
At the University of Oxford, the delegation visited the Careers Centre of the University of Oxford, and met with Dr. Jonathan Black, Director of the Center, Dr. Fiona Whitehouse, Director of the Internship Office, Oliver Sampson, Director of the Employer's Work Office, and Paloma Campos Da Silva, Manager of the Summer Internship Program of University of Oxford. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the "HUST-Oxford" summer internship program, the two sides reviewed the cooperation in the past 10 years, looked forward to the future cooperation prospects, and focused on the funding budget and implementation plan of the internship program in 2024.
The "Study at HUST" publicity activity is an important way to implement the spirit of President Xi Jinping's important speeches on building an education powerhouse, promote the HUST Global Development Strategy 2030 and popularize the "Study at HUST" brand. The publicity activities have expanded the international influence of HUST, and won praises from relevant departments of the Mission of the People's Republic of China to the European Union, partner universities and international students.
