Sino-European Institute for Intellectual Property was established in HUST

(Reporter: Yang Liu, Yang Xi) On March 20, 2018, the opening ceremony of Sino-European Institute for Intellectual Property of HUST was successfully held at the School of Management, HUST. Prof. Christophe Geiger, Director General of CEIPI (Center for International Intellectual Property Studies of the University of Strasbourg), Prof. Ansgar Ohly, Chair of Private Law, IP and Competition Law of Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich (LMU), Prof. CHEN Jianguo, Vice President of HUST, and Prof. YU Xiang, the Director of the Chinese-German Institute for Intellectual Property at HUST etc. attended the ceremony. Prof. CHEN Jianguo delivered a welcome speech and briefly introduced the development of HUST. He pointed out the establishment of the Sino-European Institute for Intellectual Property (hereinafter referred to as the “Institute”) was of great significance for HUST to develop toward a world first-class university. He affirmed the efforts and achievements made by Prof. YU Xiang’s team for build the Institute and expressed that HUST would further support the development of the Institute.

Prof. Christophe Geiger and Prof. Ansgar Ohly expressed happiness for the good cooperation with HUST and hoped to further facilitate the cooperation in the field of IP research and teaching.

Prof. YU Xiang pointed out that the international cooperation platform for IPR is not only important for cultivating high-level, internationalized IPR specialists and international comparative research, but also has significant implications for technological innovation and intellectual property protection in other disciplines.

       

Ms. FANG Mei read the official document on the establishment of the Institute, announced that the Institute was formally established, and Prof. YU Xiang was appointed as the Director of the Institute.

       


   

Prof. YU Xiang signed “Cooperation Agreements for Establishing the Sino-European Institute for Intellectual Property at HUST” respectively with Prof. Christophe Geiger and Prof. Ansgar Ohly.

Prof. CHEN Jianguo conferred the Letter of Appointment of Guest Professor of HUST upon Prof. Christophe Geiger and Prof. Ansgar Ohly.

The purpose of Establishing the Sino-European Institute for Intellectual Property at HUST is to expand and deepen the collaboration in training advanced IP talent, researching, as well as promoting technology transfer between China and European countries. The Institute has already several cooperation partners in China and some European countries, and will extend to sign cooperation agreements with excellent cooperation partners in Germany, Switzerland, Spain and some other European countries in the following years.
