Ⅰ.Educational Objectives

The Undergraduate Program in Construction Management offered by HUST is dedicated to cultivate the students for complex high-end expertise and industry leaders in engineering, management and research work, to meet with the requirement of social, economic and scientific and technological development. The students will be prepared with an international perspective and competitiveness, a solid foundation engineering technology, excellent management skills and a spirit of cooperation, a good sense of innovation and professional ethics, and access to scientific and basic engineering training.

(1) The students will be prepared with the humanistic spirit and social responsibility, professional ethics to comply with the university motto "Virtue, Knowledge, Truth, and Originality". The students will also be prepared with the spirit of teamwork and dedication, and aspiring to serve the community.

(2) The students will be prepared with the theoretical and professional knowledge of engineering technology, management, economics and law; the abilities to analyze and solve problems in the professional field; and the abilities to learn, organize and practice in the industry.

(3) The students will have the access to basic training of engineers, and be prepared for registered professional qualifications and basic skills.

(4) The students will be prepared with a sense of innovation, to engage in the construction industry practice and scientific research work for the whole process of project management, real estate management and construction technology and other fields.

Ⅱ.Learning Outcomes

The graduates are expected to grasp the following knowledge and abilities:

(A) knowledge requirements

Solid basic knowledge of natural science, especially mathematics, physics and other basic theories and methods needed for the profession;

Solid professional knowledge, especially the basic principles and knowledge in construction and building technologies, management, economic and legal, and expertise and skills of project management, investment and cost management, real estate management , Information technologies and its applications and methods in construction management;

Basic theory and basic knowledge of architecture, urban planning, environmental science and other related disciplines.

(B) the capacity requirements

Learning ability. Access to information acquisition, analysis method , the ability to read professional literature, independent learning , and lifelong learning ;

Practice and research capabilities. Analysis of the problems in the professional field , basic problem-solving skills, basic skills for professional work, and initial capacity of scientific research ;

Organizational management and presentation skills. Organization and coordination, communication and basic skills associated with the construction, and good written and verbal communication skills .

The course covers two major building types: civil and industrial building, with a focus on the first one. Engineering Internship

The content of this course can be roughly divided into two parts. The first part for project construction site production practice. Students can choose the project on any of the parties to joining into the one party (such as construction, supervision party or owner party) as the practice of receiving and guidance unit, and accept the guidance unit assigned guidance teachers and school teacher’s dual leadership. During this period, the students must be familiar with the design documents, construction documents and construction organization and management files, etc, in the guidance of teachers under the arrangement, involved in the project production or management. Write diary every day practice, collect writing practice report and little research report related material. The second part is students internship report and little research report to write, when necessary, invite construction management domain expert to students for special reports.
